Artists are constantly shifting and shaping genres; lately R&B and Soul have seen a huge resurgence, and their new iterations are some of the most fulfilling and exciting releases. I’m thinking anything from James Blake to Rhye to Jessie Ware to SOHN to Autre Ne Veut. The key to a successful release that isn’t simply following trends? Good songwriting and good production. Rosie Lowe has achieved both. Her debut track Me & Your Ghost, a sweetly succulent nouveau R&B track, straddles the line between minimalist and indulgent production, creating something that remains intriguing throughout without overdoing it.
Now Rosie debuts a new video in lieu of her upcoming EP Right Thing, which is carrying some big names in production; Kwes and Dave Okumu (of Jessie Ware fame). The song rings more sweetly than her first track, and the production is still exciting in its nuanced and timely manner. The distortion to her voice that dominates the last minute of the song is nothing short of enchanting, a strange sort of magic happens between organic and overly produced. Paired with an equally minimalist video, the centerpiece of which is Rosie luxurious back, Right Thing is a stepping stone during the ascension of an exciting new artist. Keep your ears peeled.
